It’s Time To Explore!

March 23, 2021

We’re ready! Join us in the next phase of the Battling Birds: Panama Edition investigation–data exploration.

We’ve completed the first three phases (observe, question, collect data), and now it’s time to look at data visualizations. Regardless of your involvement with Battling Birds so far, we invite you to explore the data, ask questions, and be a part of the community. A huge thank you to Peter Mason, Zooniverse volunteer and programmer, who helped us pull and clean the data from Zooniverse.

After we explore the visualizations, we will be able to look at the social rankings or “dominance hierarchy” created by Dr. Eliot Miller using the successful displacements between different species.

Several different species visit the feeding table on the Panama Fruit Feeder cam.

Ready to get started?

  • See Dig Into The Data to dip your toes into data exploration.
  • Explore the interactive visualizations we’ve created to figure out how displacements and birds visiting the feeder change over time and by species. Be sure to share your thoughts and questions in the forums.
