Hawk Talk:

May 2018 – March 2020

Participants sought to better understand the relationship between hawk vocalizations at the nest and behavior with the Red-tailed Hawks cam. They found evidence that nestlings’ vocalizations change from fewer “whistles” to more “peeps” in the first week after hatching. To learn more, check out the Hawk Talk Final Report. We finished collecting the the data set for Hawk Talk on August 23rd. Thank you to everyone that helped us cross the finish line. Over 1,400 contributors classified over 47,000 classifications on over 8,000 subjects. That’s incredible!

Now we’ll take the data and create interactive data visuals for us to explore how the data answers our research question that was decided on by the community: Do hawks use different kinds of calls in different situations at the nest?

In the meantime, we hope that you continue to enjoy the Talk forums on Zooniverse, where we collected the data.
