How does temperature affect mantling?
Reading the Graph: As temperature increases, are nestlings mantling more? Less? Alternatively, is there no relationship between mantling and temperature? Find out and see if you notice any other patterns by simplifying the graph with the interactive feature. Look for the checked boxes under “Choose What to Display,” to toggle on and off the different choices.
Notes: For each temperature category, the height of the bars refers to the total number of times nestlings mantled their prey for that temperature category. The different colors refer to time periods during the day (morning = 5:00 A.M. – 10:00 A.M., midday = 10:00 A.M. – 4:00 P.M., evening = 4:00 P.M. – 9:00 P.M.). Also, keep in mind that some temperatures were more frequently observed than others and varied by day and hour. See what the raw weather data look like here and how that might affect the relationship between temperature and mantling.
