Legend

The title of this chart is “European Starling (Success).” This is a horizontal bar chart with the number of displacements on the x-axis (horizontal axis) and species interacted with on the y-axis (vertical axis). There are two data sets displayed as two different colored bars. The light orange bars show the number of displacements that the European Starling was successful and the blue bars show the number of displacements that the European Starling was unsuccessful. The European Starling interacted the most with its own species, but when it did attempt to displace other species (Blue Jay, Mourning Dove, Downy Woodpecker), it was successful. The European Starling was only unsuccessful in displacements against its own species.

Reading the Graph: Who do European Starlings try to displace? Recall a displacement is when one bird tries to dislodge another bird and it can be either successful or unsuccessful. The orange bars show displacements in which the European Starling was successful and the blue bars show the displacements in which the European Starling was unsuccessful. The length of each bar indicates the number of displacements and the species listed on the vertical axis are the species that the European Starling tried to displace.
