Crimson-backed Tanager

Choose What to Display

A clustered bar chart to explore if food being put out on the feeder influences the arrival of the Crimson-backed Tanager. There are three different bar colors referring to the morning, midday, and night. The horizontal axis is the time since food is put out and the units are in 5-minute intervals up to 60 minutes (for example, 0-5, is the interval from when food is put out to 5 minute after). The height of each bar is the percent chance that a Crimson-backed Tanager will arrive during that time interval. There isn't a clear pattern for morning or midday as the minute interval since food is put out increases. However, for evening, the percent chance of arrival increases to its highest at the 30-35 minute interval before decreasing again for the evening category.

Reading the Graph: Does food being put out on the feeder influence when Crimson-backed Tanager arrive? In the morning? As the sun sets? Find out and see if you notice any patterns by simplifying the graph with the interactive feature. Look for the checked boxes under “Choose What to Display,” and toggle on and off the different periods of time: morning, midday, and evening.

Notes: The time since food is put out is split into 5 minute intervals up until 60 minutes with zero referring to the time when food is put out. When you see 0-5, it refers to the time period 0-5 minutes since food is put out. Each color refers to one of the three time periods. Morning refers to 6:00 am – 10:00 am, midday to 10:00 am – 2:00 pm, and evening to 2:00 pm – 7:00 pm. Be careful comparing different graphs because the values on the vertical axis will change.
